Beach or Mountains: What Do You Prefer and Why?

Illustration split between a sunny beach and snowy mountains with a coffee mug in the middle

Beach or mountains? Which do you prefer? Why?

Ask me this question and I’ll answer without hesitation: mountains. Always mountains.

It’s not that beaches aren’t beautiful. They are. I like the sound of waves and the feel of sand between my toes. But mountains feel like something deeper, something that lives inside me.

Mountains Are Home

I’m from the northern part of India, and the mountains aren’t just a destination for me. They’re home. They’re the landscape that shaped me, the place where my roots run deep, and the backdrop of my earliest memories.

We all move around in life. We go from city to city, job to job, chapter to chapter. But in the end, most of us want to return to where we started, to the place that feels familiar and knows us.

For me, that’s the mountains.

Why Mountains, Not Beaches

Mountains stand for something beaches don’t. They’re about introspection, peace and soul-searching. Beaches are lively and social, while mountains are quiet and reflective. They invite you to slow down, breathe deeply and reconnect with yourself.

I’ve often heard that mountain people tend to value solitude, meaningful challenges and time to think. Whether or not that holds for everyone, it holds for me. I don’t seek loud experiences. I seek the ones that change me from the inside.

Mountains make you be present. Whether you’re climbing a trail, sitting by a hidden lake or watching the mist roll over the peaks, they demand your full attention. There’s no Wi-Fi up there, but you’ll find a better connection: to your inner self and to your soul.

Where The Daily Brew Cafe Was Born

Here’s the truth: the idea for The Daily Brew Cafe didn’t start in Hyderabad. It started in the mountains of northern India.

I was traveling through that region, visiting small cafes tucked into valleys and hillsides. They had misty windows, warm interiors and coffee that tasted like it was brewed with intention. They weren’t just cafes to me. They were sanctuaries, spaces where travelers and locals gathered to eat, connect, reflect and feel something real.

I remember sitting in one of those mountain cafes, looking out at snow-capped peaks and sipping coffee that warmed me from the inside. I thought: Why can’t we have a place like this everywhere? A cafe that doesn’t just fill your stomach but fills your soul.

That’s where the dream began.

Mountains Teach Us to Build with Purpose

Mountains don’t rush, and they don’t try to impress. They simply are: strong, enduring and deeply rooted. That’s the energy I want to bring to The Daily Brew Cafe.

Like the mountain cafes that inspired me, we’re building something that puts connection before speed, soul before transactions and meaning before everything else. A place where people can escape the noise, breathe and feel at home.

Coming Full Circle

In the end, most of us want to come home. To return to what matters, to sit somewhere familiar and safe, surrounded by people who understand us.

For me, mountains are that place. The Daily Brew Cafe is my way of bringing that mountain energy (the peace, the reflection and the warmth that fills the soul) into everyday life.

So when someone asks, “Beach or mountains?” I’ll always choose mountains. It’s not just a preference for me. It’s a philosophy: a reminder to slow down, go inward and build something that truly matters.

Your turn

Are you a beach or mountain person? And what does your choice say about what you value most?

I’ll go first: mountains, always
